Dr Lawal Adewale Mufutau is a distinguished medical doctor, surgical-care practitioner, and Acting Head of the General Surgery Department at Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, Nigeria. With more than eight years of progressive clinical experience, he has contributed extensively to general medical practice, emergency care, inpatient and outpatient management, rural/community healthcare delivery, and surgical support services. His professional experience spans primary care, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, emergency medicine, psychiatry, and underserved-population healthcare. He has served in progressive clinical roles at Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, including medical officer, senior medical officer, and principal medical officer, and has received further clinical exposure through Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kebbi, and Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto. His specialised training includes certification through the Filaricele Anatomical Surgical Task Trainer (FASTT) hydrocele surgery programme.
Dr Mufutau has been selected as one of the 2025 recipients of the prestigious CELKHA Award of Excellence in Medicine in recognition of his clinical leadership, commitment to patient-centred care, and contribution to strengthening healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
